Buckeye Town is located in Maricopa County and is a suburb of the Phoenix metropolitan area. It was incorporated in 1929. The founder of Buckeye was Thomas Newt Clanton, who led a group of six men, three women, and ten children from Creston, Iowa to Arizona. They were the first white settlers.

The Buckeye Canal, which was named in honor of the state of Ohio, was completed in 1886. The town was originally called Sidney, but over the years it became known as Buckeye, due to the importance of the canal. The name was legally changed in 1910.

Buckeye was home to author Upton Sinclair, who passed away in 1968.
