Azusa is in Los Angeles County. It is located at the entrance of the San Gabriel Canyon and on the east side of the San Gabriel River, which is why it is nicknamed "The Canyon City". The city was originally home to Aerojet. It was also known as the home of Lucky Lager Brewer, before the company was purchased and moved by Miller Brewery in the 1970's.

Azusa's first Western settlement was due to a three mile land grant from the Mexican Government to Luis Arenas in 1841. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 ensured that the land grant was honored. The city was incorporated in 1898. The name "Azusa" is most likely taken from the Tonva place name Asuksagna.
