Commerce City is in southeast Los Angeles County. It is usually called the "City of Commerce" to avoid confusing it with the common noun.
The area was originally part of Rancho San Antonio. The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway was eventually built through the community. Factories began to be a major part of the city's economy by the 1920's and by the 1940's the leaders of the community banded together with Bandini, Rosewood, and Laguna to encourage commerce.
