El Monte, which means ¨meadow¨ or ¨the wooded place¨ is in Los Angeles County. It lies between the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers and was a resting place for Spanish soldiers and missionaries between 1770 and 1830.  

El Monte is credited for being the birthplace of television variety shows and is known for Gay´s Lion Farm, an attraction that ran from 1925-1942. Currently, it is a residential and industrial city.  Its primary industries are textiles and metal working.  It has a very low percentage of non-family households.

El Monte is a great city to have a wedding on a budget.  Duarte Recreational Trail provides a fun and cheap way to get in some exercise and enjoy views of wildflowers and the San Gabriel Mountains. You can also visit the American Society of Military History Museum.
