Lakewood City is part of Los Angeles County and about 9.5 square miles, with about 150 acres being devoted to its 15 parks and other landscaped space. The city is mostly based on a commercial and retail economy and is home to about 3,000 businesses.

The popular restaurant chain, Denny's, was first opened in Lakewood in 1953.

Lakewood is often called "the instant city" due to its quick growth from lima bean fields in 1950, to a well-established city in 1960.  It was also the first city in the United States to contract for all of its municipal services, which set a precedent for other cities in Los Angeles County.

If you have out of town guests that are bringing children, they will be thankful that there are plenty of activities in close proximity to Lakewood that will keep the kids entertained, including miniature golf, Fun City Bounce, and Oodles Kids Gym and Learning Center.
