Lomita is in Los Angeles County and only 1.9 square miles. It was originally 7 miles, but much of the land has been annexed by the surrounding cities. Its name is Spanish for "little knoll". Lomita was originally part of Rancho San Pedro under the ownership of Juan Jose Dominguez.
Lomita is a predominately white but diverse community that also consists of Native Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Blacks, and Latinos.
Notable residents of Lomita include Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ted Lilly, San Diego Padres pitcher Chad Qualls, and Native American athlete Jim Thorpe.
Even though Lomita is a small city there are some excellent vendors that will help you with your wedding planning. You can have an eclectic rehearsal dinner or reception catered by Kotosh Peruvian Food and Sushi. They will work with your budget and preferences to customize the menu. Make sure you take the time to visit the Lomita Railroad Museum, the first of its kind west of Denver. You you can view a 1902 Baldwin Locomotive, a Southern Pacific tender, a Santa Fe caboose, a replica of a 1920's water tower, and a historical railroad mural. There is also a small park nearby which has a Union Oil Tank Car on display.
