Lynwood City is 14 miles south of Los Angeles. It is part of Los Angeles County and close to South Gate and Compton. Lynwood was founded by Don Antonio in 1810 as part of a Spanish land grant. It is named after Mrs. Lynn Wood Sessions, the wife of a local dairyman who owned Lynwood Dairy and Creamery.
The Pacific Electric Railroad company had a line that passed through Lynwood and had a P.E. Depot installed in the city, which also took the name of Lynwood. It is in the process of being made into an official historical monument.

Lynwood is approximately 4.8 square miles and primarily residential. Notable natives of Lynwood include Kevin Costner, Venus Williams, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and Suge Knight.
