Montebello, which means beautiful mountain in Italian, is in San Gabriel Valley. It is part of Los Angeles County and one of the "Gateway Cities".

Montebello was primarily agricultural in the early part of the 20th century and was known for its production of fruits, berries, vegetables, and flowers.  In 1917 Montebello became a popular source for oil reserves when The Standard Oil Company found oil in the Montebello Hills. The city is currently a center for the trucking and special vehicle industry. It manufactures engines, wheels, campers, trucks, and trailers.

A marriage license can be obtained through the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office.  The location that is closest to Montebello is the East Los Angeles location at 4716 East Cesar Chavez Avenue. 

In your free time visit the Montebello Genocide Memorial, which honors the victims of the Armenian genocide, or learn more about the city and view period artifacts at the Montebello Historical Society Museum. You can also visit Grant Rea Park and the Montebello Barnyard Zoo.
