Monterey Park is in Los Angeles County and only 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The area was originally home to the Tongva Native Americans, but diseases brought by Spanish settlers killed many of the natives by 1870.
Today the population is 66.9% Asian American with 47.7% of its residents being of Chinese descent. It has the largest population of Chinese Americans of any city in the United States.
Monterey Park is a great city for a wedding. Like the rest of the Los Angeles area, the climate is Mediterranean, and you will have sunshine most of the year. We found vendors in Monterey Park that will help you find everything on your wedding checklist and stay within your budget. You can stock up on all types of wedding supplies at Dollar Tree including plastic champagne flutes and glass floral bowls. Have your reception at Monterey Hills Restaurant and take your pick of the flower adorned patio, the lounge, a classic banquet room with dark wooden ceilings, or the Grand Ballroom.
You can visit Garvey Ranch Park and go to the Garvey Ranch Observatory to view a telescope construction workshop, a library, and a historical museum. If you go Wednesday evening, the observatory is open to the public for astronomical observation.
