Temple City is in western San Gabriel Valley and part of Los Angeles County. It has a large Latino, Cuban, and Middle Eastern immigrant population and a growing Asian community.
Temple City got its start when Walter P. Temple bought 400 acres of land that had been part of Rancho Santa Anita. His vision for the city was for people to be able to afford and live in their own homes. The city was incorporated on May 25, 1960.

Winchell's Donuts and Pete and Jake's Hot Rod Repair both originated in Temple City. The first Winchell's opened on October 8, 1948.
