Aliso Viejo is the youngest city in Orange County. It was incorporated on July 1, 2001 and is surrounded by Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, and Laguna Woods. The city was originally part of Moulton Ranch, which was bought from the Mexican government by the Moulton family in the 1890's.

The first residential units in Aliso Viejo were available in March of 1982. The planned community was targeted to middle and upper-middle class home buyers. By the year 2000, Aliso Viejo had the largest population growth of any city in Orange County. 

Aliso Viejo is the headquarters for many large companies including Ketel One vodka, Marie Callender's, Pacific Life, Quest Software, and Smith Micro Software. Notable natives and residents include Olympic gold medalists Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney.
