Dana Point is located in Orange County. It was named after Richard Henry Dana Jr., who wrote Two Years Before the Mast, which describes the area as "the only romantic spot on the coast".

The city was founded in 1926 by Harry Chandler, M.H. Sherman, and Sidney H. Woodruff. They invited prominent investors to help buy the land and promised scenic streets, electricity, sidewalks and other modern amenities. Woodruff funded a number of homes, which are part of Dana Point's historic "Lantern Village".

Dana Point has several prime surfing spots and was one of the first cities to produce surfing products. It is home to the first retail surf shop, which was opened by Hobie Alter in 1954.  

Dana Point is the perfect city for a wedding, with temperatures typically staying between 65 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.
