Newport Beach is located in Orange County. The Pacific Electric Railway established a depot in 1905, which connected the city to Los Angeles and encouraged growth. It was incorporated in 1906.

Newport Beach is home to Newport Harbor, which was formed in the 1900's. It was once used for industries such as fishing and ship building, but is currently used mostly for recreation and tourism.The harbor is one of the biggest recreational boat harbors on the west coast.
