Placentia, which means "pleasant" in Latin, is located in Orange County. 

The area was part of the 1837 Rancho San Juan Cajon De Santa Ana land grant to Juan Ontiveros. Placentia was placed on the map in 1910 after A.S. Bradford convinced the Santa Fe Railroad to put a track through the city to help commuters to Los Angeles. Bradford laid out the city's main streets, and one of the main avenues is still named after him. The city was incorporated in 1926.

The first commercial grove for the Valencia orange was planted in Placentia in 1880. The city was once a center for agriculture, and grew citrus fruit, avocados, grapes, and walnuts. Today it is a residential and commercial community known for its peaceful neighborhoods and public safety.
