Seal Beach is located in Orange County. It is surrounded by Huntington Beach, West Garden Grove, Westminster, and Los Alamitos.

Seal Beach is nicknamed "Anaheim Landing", after the nearby city of Anaheim. It was called Bay City until its incorporation on October 25, 1915. The city was a popular tourist destination and featured a beach-side amusement park.

During World War II, Seal Beach was home to The United States Navy's Naval Weapons Station, which was the primary source of ammunition for the Pacific Fleet. The city is currently home to Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems.

Notable natives and residents include actor Clayton Snyder and Grammy nominated songwriter Randy Stonehill.
