Beaumont is a city in Riverside County, California. This planned city covers an area of about 30.9 square miles and it borders Calimesa to the West, Banning to the East and Cherry Valley to the North. Beaumont is French for beautiful mountain.

This city started out as a rest stop for railway travelers from the Mojave Desert who were on their way to the Los Angeles area. It was then called Edgar Station and was later renamed to San Gorgonio by a real estate development company. Upon its incorporation as a city in 1912, the city’s name was changed to its present name of Beaumont.

Rapid development of the city was witnessed in the 1930s and coincided with the emergence of nearby Palm Springs as a major resort town. Beaumont also built ranches to cash in on this tourism.

Parts of the sitcom My Name Is Earl were shot in Beaumont. Some famous people associated with this city include actor Brion James who used to live in Beaumont as well as professional wrestler George Wagner who used to own a ranch in the city.
