Blythe is a city that is located in Riverside County, California with a population of approximately 21,000 residents.  It is 27 square miles in size.  The city was named after gold prospector, Thomas Blythe, who was the person responsible for establishing primary water rights to the Colorado River in 1877.  Blythe was incorporated in July, 1916.  

Blythe is home to what is known as the Blythe Geoglyphs.  These are what archeologist call "Intaglios" which are gigantic figures that were created by prehistoric cultures that lived along the Colorado River.  Archeologist have dated the Intaglios and give a rough estimate of their age as 1100 years old.  Since the prehistoric times, the Mojave people have occupied the Colorado River area.
