Hemet is a city that is located in Riverside County, California with a population of approximately 79,000 resident.  It has an area of 27,847 square miles.

Hemet was founded in 1887 which was prior to the incorporation of Riverside County. The city itself was incorporated on January 20, 1910.  With the formation of Lake Hemet, the city grow and prospered.  For 20 years Hemet has been named Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.  

The area that is now Hemet was originally inhabited by the Cahuilla tribe and during the early 19th century was used for cattle ranching.  In the 1960's, residential development began on a large scale which was mostly in the form of mobile home parks.  This gave Hemet the reputation as a working class and retirement area.  However, in the 1980's single family home subdivisions sprang up and retails stores soon followed.  Hemet's affordability, rural character and attractive location made it the perfect area for working class families that could not afford to live in other parts of Southern California.
