Murrieta is a city in Riverside County, California. The city is largely residential and is composed of people who mainly go to work in San Diego and Orange County. It is equidistant to Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County. It covers an area of about 33.6 square miles and borders Temecula to the South and Menifee and Wildomar to the North.

Murrieta is named after Spaniard Esequial Murrieta who purchased land to continue his sheep business. Robust growth in the town is attributed to the building of Interstate 15 in the 1980's. The city boasts of notable residents such as professional golfer and 2 time PGA Tour winner Tom Pernice, Jr. as well as world champion track athlete Tyree Washington among others.
