Palm Desert is a city that is located in Riverside County, California with a population of approximately 48,500 residents.   It is 27 square miles in size and is a popular destination for "snowbirds" who are part-time residents from colder climates.  

The area that is now Palm Desert was first known as the Old MacDonald Ranch.  However, its name was changed in the 1920's to Palm Village.  The city was given its present name in 1951 when the Palm Desert Corporation began to develop real estate in the area.  The city was incorporated in November, 1973.
