Rancho Mirage is located in Riverside County and the Coachella Valley, between Cathedral City and Palm Desert. 

It is a resort city with twelve country clubs. Rancho Mirage is home to the Annenberg Estate, which was a popular vacation spot for celebrities and presidents, including Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Bob Hope, Queen Elizabeth the II, Ginger Roberts, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon.

The Betty Ford Center, a world famous addiction rehabilitation center, is also located in the city.  

The Agua Caliente Casino, which is owned by the Cahuilla Native Americans, is a popular spot just outside the borders of Rancho Mirage. The city has an agreement to provide police and firefighting services to the tribe. 

While tourism remains Rancho Mirage's primary source of income, it also has areas of light industry and commerce.
