Highland City, which was founded in 1891, is part of San Bernardino County. It was named after the geographical area that it's situated on.

The Serrano Native Americans inhabited the land until they were moved to the San Manuel Reservation in 1885.

The North Fork Water Ditch, which provided irrigation, made it possible for early settlers to establish orange and lemon groves. The construction of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1881 furthered the growth and success of Highland's economy.

Today Highland is mainly residential, with many of the early buildings still intact. There are six different developers working to bring continued affordable housing to the area. The city also has luxury housing available.
