Montclair City, which is situated in the Pomona Valley, is located in San Bernardino County. It is surrounded by Pomona, Claremont, Upland, and Ontario. 

The area was originally home to the Serrano Native Americans, who lived along the San Antonio Creek. Montclair was founded by Mrs. Edward Fraser in 1897, under the name "Township of Marquette".

Most of the land was used for citrus orchards. The population grew after World War II, and the city was incorporated in 1956 as "Monte Vista". It was renamed Montclair on April 8. 1958.

The city's economy is currently based in retail. It is home to Montclair Plaza and is considered one of the premier shopping destinations in the region.
