Ontario is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. It is situated about 35 miles to the east of downtown Los Angeles. It is the 4^th most populous city in San Bernardino and covers an area of about 50 square miles.

Brothers George and William Chaffey bought land in 1881 and they named it after their home province in Ontario, Canada. They created the basis for development by creating a drainage system which helped farmers to water their crops as well as avoid flooding. The area attracted farmers and ailing Easterners who were after a drier climate.

The city was incorporated in 1891 but in 1906, North Ontario broke away and called itself Upland. Presently, there is light manufacturing in the city, and dominant service and warehouse industries. These form the backbone of the Ontario city economy, however, there are still dairy farms and agricultural farms.

There are several notable residents of the city including Professional Wrestler Shelly Martinez and MLS player for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Landon Donovan.
