Twentynine Palms City, previously spelled Twenty-Nine Palms, is located in San Bernardino County. The city sits at 1,991 feet and is located in the Mojave Desert. It is 59.1 square miles.

The area was originally inhabited by the Chemeheuvi Native Americans. Twentynine Palms was first explored in 1855 by Colonel Henry Washington, who named the area for its palm trees. The city was founded in the 1920's. For years it was used as a rest stop along the "Utah Trail" for Mormon travelers.

The city has been used as inspiration for various music video shoots and songs including Frank Sinatra's "The Lady From Twentynine Palms", and Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant's "29 Palms".
