Yucca Valley Town, which sits in the Morongo Basin, is located in San Bernardino County. It is in close proximity to Twentynine Palms, Palm Springs, and Barstow.

The city is 3,300 feet above sea level in the Mojave Desert. It is bordered by Joshua Tree National Park and the San Bernardino Mountains. The area was originally home to the Serrano and Chemuevi Native Americans.

During the 1870's, the land was used for cattle, and as a watering stop for gold miners. Growth was slow until after World War II when people began looking for peaceful retirement outside of the cities. The hot, dry climate also attracted people looking for relief from arthritis and lung problems.
