San Jose is a city that is located in Santa Clara County, California. It is also the seat of Santa Clara County and covers an area of about 179.9 square miles. The city is also the 3^rd largest in the state of California.

Founded in 1777, San Jose was incorporated in 1850. The city was small and was known for farming. Like many other cities in the region, San Jose developed with the start of World War II. During this time, the city’s economy shifted from being agricultural based to becoming an industrial city.

Presently, San Jose is the largest Silicon Valley city. In addition, it has a global city status and despite having a high cost of living, it also has one of the highest disposal incomes in the US. Adobe and Cisco Systems are headquartered there, and IBM, Ericsson as well as Hewlett Packard (HP) have major facilities in the city.

Notable residents in the city include, but are not limited to, Lost actor Josh Holloway and Nintendo’s Mario voice actor Charles Martinet.
