Saratoga City is located in Santa Clara County. It is situated on the western edge of the Silicon Valley.

Saratoga is an affluent community, known for its wineries and boutiques. In 2008 Saratoga was ranked number 4 in CNN/Money's list of top-earning towns. A year later it was ranked by Forbes as one of the top 20 most educated small towns in the nation. Bloomberg Businessweek named Saratoga the 18th richest zip code in the United States in 2011.

The area was first settled in 1848 by William Campbell, who built a sawmill near present day downtown Saratoga. The city's early economy depended on a furniture factory, a tannery, a grist mill, and a paper factory. Saratoga also had a thriving agricultural community. 

After World War II, Saratoga experienced a population boom and incorporated in 1956. Notable natives include Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, actress Joan Fontaine, and actor Devon Graye.
