Burien City is located in King County, south of Seattle. It is situated along the waterfront of the Puget Sound and within view of the Olympic Mountains.

The area was first settled in 1864 by French-Canadian George Ouellet. The town was name Sunnydale, and consisted only of trails and small houses until Gottlieb Burian and his wife, who were tavern owners in Seattle, moved to the area and began growing the community. 

Burien is currently residential and commercial. It is a diverse community, with over 50 languages spoken within city limits. The downtown area is filled with specialty stores and boutiques. It is the center for many community events, such as the Fourth of July Parade, Art Walks, the Farmers Market, and seasonal festivals.
