Des Moines is a city located in King County, Washington. It is located about halfway between Tacoma and Seattle cities. It covers an area of about 6.3 square miles and is bordered by Kent to the East, Normandy Park to the Northwest, SeaTac to the Northeast and Federal Way to the South.

Europeans first discovered present day Des Moines in 1792, but it was not until 1867 that the first settlers arrived there. F.A Blasher from Des Moines, Iowa, persuaded his friends to help finance the development of the town. Through the Des Moines Improvement Company, they bought the land and developed it, naming it after their home land of Des Moines.

Before World War II, farming was the major industry. Rapid growth was witnessed in Des Moines after World War II, just like in many other places. The city was then incorporated in 1959.
