Maple Valley City, which was incorporated in 1997, is located in King County. It was first settled by pioneers in 1879 and named "Vine Maple Valley". The name was later shortened because it was too long for the post office.

The area was originally used for coal mining and lumber milling. By 1910 there were plenty of blacksmith shops, stores, and hotels. As the city grew, dairy and poultry farms, fishing, and berry farming became profitable industries. The community's first resort was Gaffney's Grove, which opened in 1920 by Lake Wilderness. It was functional until 1964.

Notable natives and residents include singer Brandi Carlile, football player Omare Lowe, and UFC fighter Jens Pulver.

The community is primarily residential and commercial, with plenty of options to help you with your wedding planning. We found resources in Maple Valley for wedding venues and photographers. You can have a garden wedding among the groves of Crystal Creek Tree Farm, or a rustic barn wedding at Olson Mansion, which sits on 42 acres of green land.

In your free time you can go boating and fishing at Lake Wilderness Park, or hike the Cedar River Trail, which follows an old railroad line along the river. The Gibbon Store and Fire Engine Museums are also worth a visit.
