Shoreline City, which spans 12.3 square miles, is located in King County. It was incorporated on August 31, 1995 and is the 15th largest city in Washington.

The area was originally home to Native American tribes who would travel along the Puget Sound collecting swordfern and wild cranberries. The tribes would also set controlled fires in the heavily wooded land to create meadows for hunting.

Shoreline owes its growth to the arrival of the Great Northern Railway in 1890. Its name comes from the school district boundaries in 1944, which stretched from "shore to shore". The city is primarily residential.
