San Bernardino County is a county located in the state of California with a population of approximately 2.1 million residents.  It is the largest county in the contiguous United States with an area of 20,105 square miles.  

The vast majority of the population (approximately 1.6 million) lives in the approximately 480 square miles south of the San Bernardino Mountains which is adjacent to Riverside and situated in the San Bernardino Valley.  Another 300 thousand plus residents live just a bit north of the mountains which covers roughly 280 square miles.  The other approximately 100 thousand resident are scattered across this sprawling county.  

San Bernardino County is home to at least 35 official wilderness areas that are part of the National Wilderness Preservation System which is the largest number of any county in the United States, but not by area.  Most of the wilderness areas are entirely within San Bernardino County, however, a few are shared with neighboring counties and two are shared with neighboring states Arizona and Nevada.  

If you are planning to marry in San Bernardino County, you can apply for and purchase your marriage license at the San Bernardino County Recorder-Clerk's office.  The license is effective immediately and will be valid for 90 days.
