New Castle County

Even though it is the smallest in area, New Castle County has the largest population of Delaware's three counties, and it has some great resources to help you with the wedding planning process.

Major cities and towns in New Castle County include the town of Townsend, which is the center of population in Delaware, Wilmington, Delaware City, Arden, New Castle, Middletown, Newark, Ardentown, and Bellefonte.

New Castle County is home to some of the premier mansions and gardens on the East Coast, including Nemours Mansion and Gardens, and Winterthur Museum and Gardens, both of which are popular tourist attractions, wedding venues, and locations for engagement and wedding photographs.

Several of New Castle County's historic sites—such as The Farmhouse in Wilmington, Bellevue Hall, and Rockwood Park & Museum—are also available for weddings.

There are also some beautiful parks with facilities available to rent for special occasions, including the pavilions at Banning, Brandywine Springs, Paper Mill, Iron Hill, Woodshaven Kruse, and Talley Day.

Just keep in mind that New Castle County has very cold winters, with an average low in January of 23.9 degrees Fahrenheit, so plan your wardrobe and wedding activities accordingly.

New Castle County has plenty venues with tax-free shopping, so you will be able to save some money on your wedding supplies. Some popular shopping venues include Christiana Mall, 301 Plaza in Middletown, New Castle Farmers Market, Concord Mall, Independence Mall, and Trolley Square, just to name a few.

There are plenty of attractions in New Castle County for you to enjoy, so make sure you save some time to experience all that the area has to offer.

To start, you can tour Old New Castle and historic Odessa, and visit Delaware Art Museum, Delaware Museum of Natural History, Hagley Museum and Library, DuPont Theatre, and The Grand Opera House. You can also explore Riverfront Wilmington, which features world-class restaurants and museums.
