Florida is a state in the southeastern United States.  It is a peninsula bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, Alabama, Georgia and the Atlantic Ocean.  Florida has the 4th largest population and is the 8th most densely populated state in the United States.  It is also the 22nd most extensive state.  It's state capital is Tallahassee, and Jacksonville is the largest city and the Miami metropolitan area is the largest in the southeastern United States.  

Florida boasts the longest coastline in the contiguous United States which encompasses approximately 1,350 miles.  It is the only state to border both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.  It's climate ranges from subtropical in the northern parts to tropical in the southern portion which makes it perfect for destination beach weddings.  

While Florida's nickname is the "Sunshine State," severe weather is a common occurrence.  Known as the lightning capital of the United States, central Florida experiences more lightning strikes than anywhere else in the United States.  Florida has the highest precipitation rate of any state mainly because of the afternoon storms which are common in the late spring to early fall.  Most of the state receives between 2,800 to 3,200 hours of sunshine annually which is the main reason for it's nickname. When planning a wedding in Florida, it is best to keep in mind the afternoon showers and plan accordingly.  

Florida is a very scenic and storied state and, therefore, makes an excellent destination for a wedding.  There are numerous tourist attractions and historic places to visit which will also make for a great honeymoon or extended wedding weekend.  You can plan a beach wedding on the gulf coast, at a beautiful bed and breakfast in St. Augustine or even have the fairy tale wedding of your dreams at Disney World.
