Broward County is a county that is located in the state of Florida with a population of approximately 1,750,000 which makes it the 2nd most populated county in Florida and the 18th most populated county in the United States.  The county seat is Ft. Lauderdale.

Broward County is relatively young geologically and sits on the eastern edge of the Florida Platform which was formed millions of years ago.  It is one of the very last areas of Florida to be created and populated with flora and fauna.  The county is 1,319.63 square miles in size and sits about 6 feet above sea level on average.  

Broward County was developed in 1915 and was named after the Governor of Florida from 1905 to 1909, Napoleon Bonaparte Broward. The original name was supposed to be Everglades County but a bill was amended to name the county after Broward.  Dade County and Palm County contributed almost equal portions of land to create Broward County.  Broward County has had a colorful past politically and environmentally.  In 2000, it was at the center of the United States Presidential election recount controversy.
