Cook County is a county in Illinois. It ranks as the 2nd most populous county in the United States with over 5 million residents. It is 2nd only after Los Angeles County in California. Cook County accounts for over 40% of Illinois residents. As a matter of fact, Cook County's population is larger than 29 separate states in the US and also larger than the combined population of 7 of the smallest states. Chicago is the largest municipality in Cook County. Cook County is very densely populated and is mainly urban since is contains the city of Chicago and its suburbs. Cook County was created in January of 1831.

Many movies and television shows have been filmed in Cook County. The television show ER was set in Cook County with the hospital being named "Cook County General Hospital." The 1980 movie The Blues Brothers was also filmed in Cook County and the Cook County Building was used extensively in the film. The 1980's television drama Hill Street Blues was filmed in Cook County and the Cook County Criminal Courthouse was frequently used throughout the run of the series.
