Forest Park Village is located in Cook County. It was incorporated on April 17, 1907. The Potawatomi Native Americans were the first inhabitants of the land and built burial mounds along the Des Plaines River.
Forest Park was once known as the "village of cemeteries", with an estimated ratio of 30:1 dead to alive. The village is home to Jewish Waldheim, Concordia, German Waldheim, Forest Home, and Woodlawn Cemeteries.
The first industry in Forest Park was a sausage factory that was opened in 1890 by Karl Lau. The population has historically consisted of German and Italian immigrants, but has become more diverse in recent years.
