Jackson County, which is the second most populous county in Missouri, is located in the west central part of the state and has some unique resources to help you with the wedding planning process.

Major cities and towns in Jackson County include its county seat, Independence, part of Kansas City, which serves as a center for local government and a second county seat, Blue Springs, Blue Summit, River Bend, Lake Lotawana, Lake Tapawingo, and Grandview.

Jackson County has numerous parks, trails, and lakes that offer opportunities for boating, camping, and are also beautiful locations for engagement and wedding photographs and outdoor ceremonies.

Major parks in Jackson County include Blue and Gray Park, Blue River Parkway, Landahl Park, Longview Lake Park, which features a full-service marina, Blue Springs Lake at Flemings Park, and Lake Jacomo.

If you are a history buff, Independence is a great place for theme and destination weddings, as it is home to numerous historic homes, religious sites, Civil War sites, and often hosts historic reenactments.

Independence also features a lot of unique shopping venues, where you will be able to find one-of-a-kind wedding favors, gifts, and other essential wedding supplies.

Popular shopping venues include the specialty boutiques and antique stores in historic Independence Square, Independence Center, Englewood Station Shopping District, Bolger Square, Noland Fashion Square, and Hartman Heritage. 

Some historic sites in Jackson County that are worth a visit if you have time include the 1859 Jail and Marshal's Home, the Bigham-Waggoner Estate, the 1827 Log Courthouse, Fort Osage National Historic Landmark, Truman Farm Home, Missouri Mormon Walking Trail, and historic Missouri Town, which is just one of the county's historic wedding venues.

For your convenience, Jackson County has two Recorder of Deeds Offices where you can obtain your marriage license for $50. One of the offices is in Independence, and the other is located in Kansas City.
