Today, Clark county is known as a major tourist destination.  It has over 150,000 hotel and motel rooms available.  The famous Las Vegas Strip which is the home to most of the hotel/casinos is actually not located within the City of Las Vegas, but instead in the unincorporated Paradise.

Clark County got its name from William Andrews Clark.  He was a copper magnate and United States  Senator from Montana.  William Andrews Clark was the person who was largely responsible for construction of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad which came through the area which was a large contributing factor to the area's early development.
