Cuyahoga County

Cuyahoga County, whose name is taken from the Iroquoian word meaning "crooked river," is the most populous county in Ohio, with numerous resources, transportation services, and recreational areas for you to consider when doing your wedding planning.

Cuyahoga County is home to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Cuyahoga County Airport, and Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport. The county also offers Greyhound, Megabus, Regional Transit Authority bus lines, and Amtrak train services, so you and your wedding guests will be able to easily explore the area.

Cuyahoga County has approximately 357 properties and districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, four of which are National Historical Landmarks.

Cleveland, which is the county seat, is home to major attractions such as the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Cleveland Metroparks system, which stretches through several of the county's 59 communities.

During free time, you and your wedding guests can also enjoy Cleveland Browns Football, Cleveland Indians Baseball, Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball, boating at Whiskey Island Marina, or touring the historic Lake View Cemetery.

Cuyahoga County has many areas of natural beauty that are popular wedding venues including The Cleveland Botanical Garden, where you and partner can exchange vows in the Japanese Garden or in front of a waterfall.

There are nearly as many precipitation days as sunny days per year in Cuyahoga County (153 and 163, respectively), so if you are planning an outdoor wedding, it's a good idea to have a back-up plan. Also, keep in mind that the county's winters average about 53.6 inches snow.

The Probate Court of Cuyahoga County has offices in Cleveland, Berea, Garfield Heights, and Rocky River where you can obtain your marriage license. Remember that the satellite offices (Berea, Garfield Heights, Rocky River) only accept credit and debit cards as a form of payment.
