Dallas County

Dallas County is located in the state of Texas and is within the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area.  The county has approximately 2,400,000 residents and is the 9th most populous county in the United States.  Dallas County was founded in 1846 and it's county seat is Dallas which is the largest city in the county.  It is also the 3rd largest city in Texas and the 8th largest city in the United States.

Dallas County has a total land area of 908 square miles; 880 square miles of land and 29 square miles of water.  It is adjacent to Colin County to its north, Rockwell County to the northeast, Kaufman County to the east, Ellis County to the south, Tarrant  County to the west and Denton County to the Northwest.  

Changes came quickly in Dallas County beginning in the early 1920's.  After 1920, Dallas County became less rural and more urban as the manufacturing industry became the biggest source of employment for its residents.  As a result, the number of farms declined sharply from approximately 5,300 to 4,800 by 1930.  The depression continued to hasten this decline and by 1940 the number of farms had dropped 35 percent.  

Couples wishing to marry in Dallas County apply for a marriage license online and then go to a County Clerk's office to pay the required fees and obtain their license.  There is a 72 hour waiting period unless one of the parties is in the active military in which case the waiting period can be waived.  The license is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. One of the more unique venues for a wedding in Dallas County is the Old Red Museum in Dallas.  This historic building features grand entryways with a soaring four story staircase perfect for photo opportunities and tossing the bridal bouquet.  The Museum has enough space to accommodate up to 400 guests with plenty of space for buffets and/or dancing.
