Harris County

Harris County is located in Texas within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area.  This is the 5th largest metropolitan area in the United States.  Harris County has a population of just over 4 million people which makes it the most populated county in Texas.  It is also the 3rd most populated county in the United States.  The county seat is Houston which is the largest city in Texas.  Harris County was founded in December of 1836 and was named for John Richardson Harris, one of the area's earliest settlers.  It was originally named Harrisburg County in 1836 but was renamed Harris County in December 1839.

Harris County is 1,778 square miles and is larger in both total area and land area than Rhode Island.  

If you are planning a wedding in Harris County, you can obtain your marriage license from any Harris County Clerk's Office.  There is a 72 hour waiting period and the license will be valid for 30 days.  You must remember to bring cash when you go to the Clerk's office as that is the only form of payment accepted for a marriage license.  

Harris County is home to two large airports, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Dan Jones International Airport.  This makes it perfect for destination weddings as your entire wedding party will be able to fly in from just about any area.  

Since Houston is the largest city in Texas, you will be able to find all the resources you need to put together a spectacular wedding.  There are any number of vendors including those that sell wedding dresses, bridal bouquets, wedding invitations, etc. There are also number wedding venues you can choose from.  You can definitely plan a long wedding weekend in Harris County with no lack of fun things for your wedding party and guests to do.
