King County

King County is a county located in the state of Washington with a population of almost 2,000,000.  It is the most populated county in the state and the 14th most populated county in the United States.  The state's largest city and county seat is Seattle which accounts for about two-thirds of the county's population.  King County is amongst the 100 counties with the highest income in the United States.  

King County was formed from a territory within Thurston County and became its own county in December 1852.  It was named after William R. King who was Vice President of the United States during the presidency of Franklin Pierce.  The county seat of Seattle was named in January of 1853.

With a total area of 2,307 square miles, King County is almost twice the size of the state of Rhode Island.  It is the 11th largest county by area in the state of Washington.  

If you will be getting married in King  County, you will need to obtain a marriage license from the King County Recorder's Office.  There is a 3 day waiting period and the license is valid for 60 days from the date of issue.  To find a convenient location to obtain your license, you can call the Recorder's Office at 206-296-4021.

There are many different locations in King County to host a wedding. The King County Parks has many locations that are both indoor and outdoor you can choose from. There is also the MV Skansonia which is one of Seattle's premier wedding and event facilities.  It is a beautiful ship and makes for a gorgeous waterfront facility and can accommodate up to 300 guests.  The MV Skansonia was completely updated in 2009 and is a one stop shop for just about every detail on your wedding checklist.  The only thing you will need to bring is your wedding gown, your groom's tux and the bridal party's bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen's tuxedos.
