Redmond is a city in King County, Washington. This suburban city is located just 16 miles from Seattle. It covers an area of approximately 16.6 square miles, and is best known as being home to the Microsoft Corporation. The city borders Bellevue to the Southwest, Kirkland to the West and Sammamish to the South East.

When it was founded, there were plenty of fish and forests in the area, and this brought many loggers and fishermen to the area. Their huge numbers prompted merchants to open shops there because some essential goods and services were needed.

With logging came dwindling of forests and the deforested areas were used for agriculture. The city also suffered during the great depression, but growth was experienced again as many technology companies started operating in the area.

Presently, the city is home not only to Microsoft, but also to other technology companies such as Nintendo of America. It is also known as the bicycle capital of the Northwest.

Notable people in Redmond include but are not limited to American Idol season 6 runner up Blake Lewis and actor/show host Grant Goodeve.
