Napkins are a necessity a most wedding related events such as bridal showers, rehearsal dinners or the actual wedding reception and having those napkins personalized has become very popular at many wedding events. This enables the couple to put their personalized stamp on their special day. Wedding napkins can be customized to compliment your wedding colors and theme. However, choosing all the options that will be just right for your wedding can be a bit confusing.
Below are a few tips to help you get through this task with as little confusion as possible.
First things first. Will you be ordering napkins for just the wedding day or will you want them for your rehearsal dinner and/or bridal shower? No matter what event you are ordering the napkins for, you will need to know the correct size to order. Let's break it down.
Cocktail napkins usually measure 5 X 5 inches. They are generally used for serving drinks at cocktail hour or at a juice bar. They will be placed under each glass when your guests are served
Luncheon napkins usually measure 6-1/2 X 6-1/2 inches and can be used for wedding reception brunches, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners or at the wedding cake table and are sometimes used as bridal shower favors. These napkins are usually stacked or nicely arranged on the buffet table, cake table or placed on the guest tables lying flat.
Dinner napkins will usually measure 8-1/2 X 8-1/2 inches. These napkins are generally used for formal wedding dinners. Dinner napkins are usually folded and placed on the tables.
Disposable guest towels measure approximately 4-1/2 X 8-1/4 inches. These are much less common and are generally used in the restrooms as a personalized hand towel for your guests. Some people like the rectangular shape of the guest towels as this eliminates folding. Therefore, they may choose to use them at the dinner table.
Now that you have chosen the type of napkin you plan to use, the next thing to consider is color. When choosing your napkin color, try to coordinate it with your wedding colors. You might use one of your wedding colors for the napkin itself and another of the colors for the imprint. If you find it difficult to match your wedding colors, it is recommended to use a white napkin and choose an imprint color that closely matches your wedding colors.
There are many different options to choose from when ordering custom wedding napkins. Almost anything can be imprinted on a wedding napkin. Some couples choose to have their monogram imprinted on the napkins. Others choose a design that fits them, possibly with the date of the wedding as well. Still others will choose their first names and wedding date. There are some couples that are especially creative that choose to use a short poem, personal piece of information or a significant phrase on their napkins.
One question that is always asked is how many napkins to order. Here are some general guidelines. Cocktail napkins should be ordered at 2-3 napkins per guest. If you are ordering luncheon napkins, 1-2 per person is recommended. For formal dinner napkins, 1 napkin per guest is generally sufficient. If you are using guest towels, then 2-3 per guest is the norm. However, if you are using them at the dinner table, you can assume 1 per person as with the dinner napkins.
