Savannah City

Your wedding in beautiful, tree'd Savannah means a wedding alongside history.

Savannah is stunningly scenic and is packed with a history that no other city can boast. It is laid out on a grid of over twenty squares each with it's own character and all beautifully endowed with old live oak trees. These squares have interesting monuments and well cared for parks and are surrounded by some of the most picturesque, historic architecture.

Savannah was founded in 1773, and the historic district was designed by General James Oglethorpe. It lies along the Savannah river, about 20 miles inland. The river is the port of Savannah, and this has made the city quite important to the history of the south, the civil wars, cotton and slave trading and to modern day Georgia.

Close by is Tybee Island, a great beach getaway, wedding or vacation spot.

The weather in Savannah is quite mild year round, so a wedding here would be a great choice. Location is everything, and being that the city has so much history and scenery to offer, it will be a much appreciated destination for any guests who have to travel as it can double as a vacation while at your wedding.

When your guests arrive in Savannah, the most effective way to begin touring its storied past is to take a trolley tour of the historic district. Old Savannah Tours in the white trollies are the best of the best. Along the route you may bump into legendary figures from the past such as Forest Gump who showed up on the trolley I was on. The tour will give you a wonderfully deep overview of Savannah, and will also give you a feel for the layout of the town and its historic sites. You can get off and on the tour trolleys, so you might stop for lunch at a pub along the way.

The Old Savannah Tours was able top take a very large group on tour with no notice, give us complimentary parking, handle a wheelchair, and we were warm despite a cold, windy winter day. There are three trolley tour companies, so be certain to look for the "white" tour trolleys.
