Mesquite City is situated in the Virgin River Valley and located in Clark County. It is near the Arizona border and has attracted a large retired population.

Mesquite was first settled in 1880 by Mormon pioneers, who named the area "Mesquite Flat". After overcoming several floods from the Virgin River, the city was established and incorporated in May of 1984.

Mesquite was originally an agricultural community. The Peppermill Casino opened in the 1970's, stimulating and diversifying the city's economy. 

Mesquite is a popular stopping point for travelers going between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City. It is home to several casinos and nine world-class golf courses, which attract golfers from all over the United States. The city also hosts the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.

Make sure to visit the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. If you're feeling adventurous, the Mesquite Airport has skydiving facilities.
