Boulder City is located in Clark County, only 20 miles from Las Vegas. It is one of two cities in the state where gambling is illegal.

The city is located in the desert and originated in 1931 as a housing community for men working on the Hoover Dam. 

The workers originally settled in tents along the river, but the long duration of the project prompted the Bureau of Reclamation to construct Boulder City as a semi-permanent town. It was designed by architect Saco Reink DeBoer as a government regulated model community.

Boulder City was recently named the 6th best place to retire in the United States by Money Magazine due to its affordable housing, recreational activities, and quality healthcare.
