Galena Park is a city located in Harris County, Texas with a population of approximately 11,000.  It has a total area 5.0 square miles

The area that is now Galena Park started out as Clinton in 1835.  However, in 1935, when Clinton tried to establish a post office, its request was denied because there was already a Clinton, Texas.  It was then named Galena Park after the Galena Signal Oil Company of Texas.  The company built the first refinery in Galena Park.  The original name (Clinton) survives today as one of its major streets is named Clinton Drive. Galena Park was incorporated in 1935 and as a result was not incorporated into Houston.  As Houston expanded in the late 1930's so did Galena Park.
